Abstract

This experiment was conducted to investigate the symptom of glyphosate injury on grape vines. Treatments, consisted of dipping individual leaves of Niagara grape vines into a 25,000ppm glyphosate solution, divided by position of leaves and the results are as follows.
1. Almost all leaves which were dipped into glyphosate solution eventually died, and shoot growth stopped or was severely reduced in all treated vines.
2. Lateral shoot growth stopped in the treatment on basal part and was reduced on the upper part of shoots, and the typical symptom of glyphosate injury in lateral shoot was $quot;fan leaf symptom$quot;.
3. Root growth was severely reduced in most treatment except treatment A (dipped on upper part of shoots).
4. It is obvious from the results that mature leaves appeared to translocate glyphosate toward the other parts of vine and considerable care needs to be taken when using glyphosate in any grape vineyards.
